Guides

Ever been on holiday and haggled with the locals and found it fun? Well dont be afraid to treat the purchase of your trailer with similar excitement as it can and should be!

Haggling

Go on - Put your haggling skills to the test!

The thought of haggling for many people can be intimidating but without it you may end up paying over the odds.

If it does intimidate you, don’t let it. Private sellers and dealers expect it and it can actually be fun! Just imagine buying that dream trailer and having enough money left over to take the family out for lunch to celebrate! Wohoo!

Follow some of our simple pointers to help you become an effective negotiator and clinch a great deal on your next trailer:

1. Research

Do research before you go to the dealer or private seller. Look on the internet and in the local area what discounts other dealers are offering. If buying privately investigate what other similar trailers are selling for. With this information set your budget and negotiate with the seller.

2. Start Low

Start at a low opening price but be realistic. Then let the dealer negotiate to the price you would be happy with.

3. Special Offers

Be wary of special offers. They may not be as special as they appear and getting a big discount through haggling over the trailer you are really interested in may result in a better deal.

4. Commitment

Show commitment to your trailer of choice. If the person thinks you are really going to buy then they will go the extra mile in service and price to ensure that the deal is made. Give the dealer and seller an ultimatum. If you are getting close to a deal – say that you will buy the trailer now for that price!

5. Dont be Pressured

If you don’t find the deal you are looking for don’t be afraid to walk away. There are plenty more dealers or other trailers which will give you the deal you want.
